Housman was born at Valley House in London 0n 26 March 
1859 .His mother died when he was twelve years old.Housman 
was admitted at Bromsgrove School.He won an open scholarship to St John's College, Oxford .After university he got a job as a clerk in the Office in London .
A.E.Housman studied at Oxford and published learned articles on classical authors. He spent his life in teaching and editing the works of a minor Roman Poet. He also wrote scholarly reviews. His poems are in three separate volumes written between 1895 and 1905.
He was offered the professorship of Latin at University of London.He frequently visited to France, where he read "books He published his work " Manilius's Astronomicon" in five volumes. He also edited works of Juvenal and Lucan . He wrote songs also which were sung by many famous singers. He also gave many lectures.
His Poems express simple ,universal emotions - Love of nature, nostalgia for the past, the pathos of man's brief existance in sences and narratives that are easy to under stand ,His style deviates from the old ballads and from classical poetry.Together with his pessimism and irony ,which can be savage,the formal qualities keep his intense emotions from seeming sentimental.
He wrote in his paper that "A textual critic engaged upon his business is not at all like Newton investigating the motion of the planets: he is much more like a dog hunting for fleas." .
 Housman died on 30 April 1936 in Cambridge. He is buried near St Laurence's Church. A tree of cherry is grown on his grave in his memory.

Poem (Loveliest of trees,the cherry now)

 Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

 Almighty God, created every thing beautiful. It is natural to love beautiful things. In this stanza, the poet has expressed his life long love for cherry. This poem is a beautiful manifestation of poet’s love for nature. He loves the cherry tree since fifty years of his life. He is deeply impressed by its beauty. 
He wants to spend a lot of time in its pleasant company. Love gives peace of mind. It gives joy, satisfaction and new views. A man having deep insight sees beauty everywhere. Such is the matter with poet. He has deep love for cherry. Fifty years have^passed in this love but he thinks that fifty years are not sufficient and long enough to enjoy the beauty of cherry. 
The poet does not want to miss any chance to go to the woodland to see the exotic beauty of the cherry tree. The famous English poet John Keats has also expressed the same type of feelings in the A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never 'Pass into nothingness; but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing. The beauty of nature, especially of cherry is captivating. But the life is short to relish it. 
Even fifty years are not enough time to enjoy it fully. The poet says that one should not miss any chance of enjoying the bloom of the ’loveliest of trees', the cherry, in the woods in all seasons. Cherry, which is the loveliest of the trees, is now in full bloom and its branches are bending down loaded with flowers. It stands along the path in the wood and is all covered in snow. According to the poet's expression the cherry stands in a white dress in preparation for the celebration of Easter.

  2. The poet is twenty years old. As he expects to live till he's seventy (according to the Bible), he regrets that he has only fifty more springs in which to enjoy the cherry blossom, which looks like snow. So he will go out now to see it.
