These lines have been taken from the play The Boy Comes Home” by A.A. Milne.
Context:
Philip is the nephew of Mr. James. He has been in the army for four years. Now he has come to live with his uncle and aunt. Mr. James wants to force him to adopt his business of jam while he is waiting for Philip he falls asleep. In the dream, he has a quarrel with Philip. He points a pistol at him. He suddenly awakes. Now he decides in his heart to be very kind to Philip. Explanation:
In these lines, the writer tells about the views of Philip. Philip is talking to his uncle. In fact, he argues Uncle James about his future and tries to convince Uncle James. During their discussion, he tells his uncle that he should not worry about his activities. He tells him that it is holiday for him and especially after the war, when he is in London, he is on holiday.
(e) It is another of our fatal weakness and has kept us
     out of law and politics and diplomacy - in fact, everything but church.

Context:
In the play, we are told about an act of burglary, which the burglar commits. He enters the library of Redchester. Redchester had the gifts of Christmas in a safe. This is something exciting and thrilling for the whole family.
Guy Sydney is speaking with the burgler.He welcomes his visit to his house. He tells him that their life is  dull ,boring but now he colours their life. The burglar suspects the foul play but Guy tails him that their family is trustworthy. They have always been loyal to the king and the state. Truthfulness and straightforwardness are their greatest qualities. They have never been lawful and do not like politics and diplomacy. .
