Enright explains various facets of the protagonist of the poem. This protagonist is fake, not real, but he contains an importance. The poet introduces a person who does not conform to the social environment of the society. He carves out his own world which is absolutely different from the society. He wants to make difference. He tries to set his own ways for leading life just for the sake of his importance. <br />Each and every act of his life is against the society but he never harmed others. He only wants importance and appreciation. He does not like to be made a yes man. In spite of contradictory behaviour, the poet says that the protagonist is a very important person. His every action is motivated by self-assertion and individualistic show. The protagonist’s action is motivated either of the sense of inferiority or insecurity. He simply defies such normal behaviour which is not of serious importance. He invents his own fashion. If everybody is growing long hair, he will grow short hair and vice versa. If everybody talks during the lesson, he keeps totally quiet. If everybody wears serious types of uniform clothes, he wears bright-coloured clothes. If everybody loves dogs, he shows his love for cats. If everybody praises the sun, he talks about the need for rain. When everybody goes to the meeting, he stays at home and reads a book. When everybody accepts the offer, he rejects it. Nobody likes to become one such fellow but if there are such fellows in our society, it is not altogether bad. <br /><br />The theme is presented in a light humorous manner. The language is simple and plain and the sentences straightforward. It is, so to speak, a good piece of narration that brings out dramatically the trivial and low tone of the so- called rebel’s difference of behaviour in society.<br /><br /> </span><br /></p>
