 de -Gama was born on </span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">1460.Vasco da Gama was born 1460 or 1469 in Sines, on the southwest coast of Portuga.Vasco da Gama's father was served as a knight of the household of  Ferdinand, Duke of Viseu and went on to rise in the ranks of the military Order of Santiago. His father was appointed civil governor of Sines in the 1460s  until 1478.He studied at the inland town of Évora, where he  learned mathematics and navigation .IHe studied under the <b><i>astronomer </i></b>Abraham Zacuto.

Around 1480, da Gama followed his father and joined the Order of Santiago. The master of Santiago was Prince John.

In 1492, John II dispatched da Gama on a mission to the port of Setúbal.</span>But he and by going round the African 
Continent ultimately reached India in 1498 A.D. He
 landed at the Indian port of Calicut. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">He was the first European to reach India by sea.He was  linking Europe and Asia for the first time by ocean .This discovery was significant and opened the way for an age of global imperialism .</span></div>

 great Muslim traveller of the middle ages Ibne Batuta was born in 1304 
A. D. at Tangier.

From the early childhood he was very fond of studying geography.

Travelling in those days was very difficult and of dangers. There was no
 guides or maps and people travelled on horse-back. Inspite of all 
these, difficulties, ibne-Batuta travelled through almost all the Muslim
 countries.

Ibne Batuta was twenty one years old when in 1325 A.D. he got a chance 
to accompany a caravan from Tunis to Egypt. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Ibne
 Batuta wanted to go for Haj but made a detour. He went to 
Baitul-Muqaddas and from there he went to Syria and then to Makkah. He 
stayed there for some years.

He went for visit of holy places to Iran and Iraq and made the next trip
 to Central Asia.After that trip, Ibne Batuta set his face towards 
India. Passing through Samarqand, Bukhara and Kabul, he reached Delhi 
via Sukkur and Multan. Delhi at that time was being ruled by Muhammad 
Tughlaq. The Sultan was greatly impressed by his intelligence and 
knowledge and gave him the office of a Qazi (judge). </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The
 Sultan then nominated Ibne Batuta as his Ambassador to China. On his 
way, he made halts at Maldives and Sri Lanka and gave very fine accounts
 of

those places. After going through many dangers, he reached China by the 
sea route. He is full of praise for the artistic taste of the Chinese, 
their nice houses and efficient. police system. He was particularly 
impressed by their methods of agriculture. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Ibne
 Batuta lived in China for five years and then decided to return. From 
China, he came to Java and Calicut and again entered India from the 
southern side. </span></div>

would think of hitch hiking. . The temperature  was so high that in two hours a flask of cold water became hot enough to make tea. Now a military vehicle overtook them. Christopher was allowed a lift in it. He was dropped  at the town of Ghardala.
From hero Christopher got a seat in a truck going to El Golua.The driver told him how three Englishmen attempting to cross

the desert had met their death. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">On the second morning, they found that one of their two water bags had burst during the night. So they went In search of water. Christopher was miserable with thirst.
Fortunately, they found a well of cool water. Then they reached Ef Golea. On his way to In Salah, Christopher fainted . When he recovered, his companions gave him as much water as he could drink. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then they reached In Salah, a town, being swallowed by the desert. From here the hero of the desert succeeded in taking a seat in another truck. They reached Tamanrasset. 
Now he started on the 800-mile journey to Timbuktu. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Christopher had learnt tb ride a camel. He started his journey with his guide Boubaker, each on a camel Later Christopher joined a small group. They could find no water. They slaughtered a camel and quenched their thirst with the greenish fluid1. The sand dunes^0 were burning. There blew a fjerce storm Christopher had a narrow escape from a four-foot snake. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">A day later he reached Timbuktu. It was the end of his marn journey. He wished to see more of the desert before returning home He sent telegram to Professor Balanguernon in Tamanrasset asking him to meet him at a well near In Abbangarit. The professor was to continue going towards Agades if Christopher did not reach the well by a certain day.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Christopher flew to Agades and then travelled north partly by jeep and partly by camel. The caravan24/ He was travelling with had to leave the road to get water from, a well at some distance It look them two days to get back to the road. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">At last Christopher reached the appointed place, in Abbangarit and waitedtfor the professor. Here he had the shock of his life. The well had water but it was 150 feet below He had no rope and no bucket lev get the water. That night he lay in his sleeping ban thinking of certain death by thirst and hunger if the professor did not arrive In a day or two.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> He wished to-record his last thoughts on his recording machine.
Then suddenly he realized that his recorder had 1000 feet of

thin wire. He cut the wire into seven pieces and twisted them into ; fairly strong rope. He tied a small teapot to the rope and succeeded " bringing up some water. It was no enough but it would save him from death by thirst.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> The next day, the desert patrol cars reached him. A little later the professor arrived with a friend. Christopher was saved from dying of  hunger.

East. After trading off their goods when they were coming hack home, they found the way blocked by robbers.</span><br />

They went back to Venice and from there they could persuade

only two preachers to accompany them to China. But Nicolo Polo’s young son, Marco showed a great Keenness to set out with them on the adventurous journey. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">He was only seventeen years. He requested his father and uncle to take him along to China. They consented to his request.

On the way they faced with many hardships. They travelled by ship through the Mediterranean sea and then adopted land

route and crossed the Gobi Desert. It was well known for its widerness But with courage and determination they overcame all their hardship and troubles. The two preachers, lost heart and went back.
Three years of struggle

Alter three years continuous struggle they reached the court of Kublai Khan.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> He was very pleased to see them. He liked young Marco Polo very much and assigned him an important task to accomplish. It was to travel the various provinces of China and submit a report on the state of affairs there.
Marco polo’s book

Marcopolo in his book of travels, while writing about China, gives his impressions about this great emperor Kublai Khan.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> He describes him as lord of lords and tells that the Emperor was fair-contplexioned and short statured if with a very impressive personality wjlf . He was fond of feasts and on such occasions accepted gifts from his people. Once Marco saw a lion without chains bowing before the Emperor in deep humility .He says that Peking was the Capital of the Kingdom and was well fortified. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">After seventeen years

After seventeens years of stay in Chaina the Polos wished to go hack to their native city, Venice. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The Emperor granted them permission to go home and sent Princess Kogatin in their charge to Persia (Iran). Site was to be married to a Prince of Persia. But when they reached the Persian court, they were shocked to know that the Prince with whom the princess was to be married had died.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> However, the Persians solved their problem. They suggested that the Chinese princess should be married to the young son of the prince who had died. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Thus the marriage was arranged. After performing their duty they resumed their journey to Venice and at last they reached there after an absence of more than twenty years. They were so changed that nobody could recognise them. A year later their country went to war with the neighbouring land Geneva, in which Marco was imprisoned .He

remained in the prison for three years where he wrote his travelogue.

<span style="font-size: large;">He thought of going to India from the western side. But his plans matured much later when he left the Port of Balboa in August 1492.

Braving storms and dangers, he at last reached the island of San Salvador. He thought he had reached India, but did not know for certain that he had discovered the island of Trinidad and the continent of South America. His efforts and expeditions earned for him a lot of fame and wealth.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">His father was a middle-class wool weaver .Christopher worked as a helper to his father. Christopher's mother name was Susanna .He had two brothers and one sister .In one of his writings, Columbus claims to have gone to the sea at the age of 10. In 1470, the Columbus family moved to Savona, where Domenico took over a tavern. In the same year, Columbus was on a Genoese ship hired in the service of René I of Anjou to support his attempt to conquer the Kingdom of Naples. Some modern historians have argued that Columbus was not from Genoa, but instead, from the Aragon region of Spain[15] or from Portugal.[16] These competing hypotheses have generally been discounted by mainstream scholars.[17]

In 1473, Columbus began his apprenticeship as business agent for the important Centurione, Di Negro and Spinola families of Genoa. Later, he allegedly made a trip to Chios, a Genoese colony in the Aegean Sea.[18] In May 1476, he took part in an armed convoy sent by Genoa to carry a valuable cargo to northern Europe. He docked in Bristol, England[19] and Galway, Ireland. In 1477, he was possibly in Iceland. In the autumn of 1477 Columbus sailed on a Portuguese ship from Galway to Lisbon, where he found his brother Bartolomeo, and they continued trading for the Centurione family. Columbus based himself in Lisbon from 1477 to 1485. He married Filipa Moniz Perestrelo, daughter of the Porto Santo governor and Portuguese nobleman of Lombard origin Bartolomeu Perestrello.[20]

In 1479 or 1480, his son Diego Columbus was born. Between 1482 and 1485, Columbus traded along the coasts of West Africa, reaching the Portuguese trading post of Elmina at the Guinea coast.[4] Some records report that Filipa died in 1485. It is also speculated that Columbus may have simply left his first wife. In either case, Columbus left Portugal for Castile in 1485, where he found a mistress in 1487, a 20-year-old orphan named Beatriz Enríquez de Arana.[21]

Ambitious, Columbus eventually learned Latin, Portuguese, and Castilian, and read widely about astronomy, geography, and history, including the works of Claudius Ptolemy, Cardinal Pierre d'Ailly's Imago Mundi, the travels of Marco Polo and Sir John Mandeville, Pliny's Natural History, and Pope Pius II's Historia Rerum Ubique Gestarum. According to historian Edmund Morgan,

Columbus was not a scholarly man. Yet he studied these books, made hundreds of marginal notations in them and came out with ideas about the world that were characteristically simple and strong and sometimes wrong, the kind of ideas that the self-educated person gains from independent reading and clings to in defiance of what anyone else tries to tell him.[22]

Throughout his life, Columbus also showed a keen interest in the Bible and in Biblical prophecies, and would often quote biblical texts in his letters and logs. For example, part of the argument that he submitted to the Spanish Catholic Monarchs when he sought their support for his proposed expedition to reach the Indies by sailing west was based on his reading of the Second Book of Esdras (see 2 Esdras 6:42, which Columbus took to mean that the Earth is made of six parts of land to one of water). Towards the end of his life, Columbus produced a Book of Prophecies, in which his career as an explorer is interpreted in the light of Christian eschatology and of apocalypticism.[9]</span></div>
