Thomos .Stearns.Eliot was born in America on 26 September 1888.He was 
died on 4 January 1965. He was born in America but from 1927 till his 
death he lived in London.His father was a business man and his mother 
was a poetess and also a social worker. He was physically weak in his 
childhood but mentally he was very intelligent. 
He settled in Britain. He is well-known for his great 
poems such as The Waste, Land and Four Quartets. He also wrote plays and
 contributed critical essays.

In the start he admitted 
in an academy for education .He was expert in French and gemany 
languages. He got education from Howard university and Merton college 
Oxford.His first poem which published in smith academy was " A fable for
 feasters"

The "love song of J.Alfred Prufrock

" The waste land and Four Quarttets"

are his notable works.</div>

He married to Vivienne Hai-gh Wood in 1915.His wife was ill. She 
suffered many diseases. So their marriage life was not so happy. He 
wrote a play on this topic .A film was also produced </div>

He got many awards as Noble prize in literature and Order of merit.He

We are the hollow men  
We are the stuffed men  
Leaning together  
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!  
Our dried voices, when  
We whisper together  
Are quiet and meaningless  
As wind in dry grass  
Or rats' feet over broken glass  
In our dry cellar  
Shape without form, shade without colour,  
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;  
 Those who have crossed  
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom  
Remember us—if at all—not as lost  
Violent souls, but only  
As the hollow men  
The stuffed men. 
 
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams, 
 In death's dream kingdom, 
 These do not appear, 
There, the eyes are, 
 Sunlight on a broken column, 
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are, 
 In the wind's singing, 
More distant and more solemn, 
 Than a fading star. 
 Let me be no nearer ,

 Explaination of poem "The Hollow men" </h3>

The poet is of the view that we are soulless. Our actions and deeds are hollow. Our efferts are vain like running of rats or rustling of grass. We have formless shapes. We do not have the real spirit and enthusiasm. The poem is a lamenting note on modern man's soulless life.

In this poem, the poet condemns the spiritual emptiness of modem man. 
 He says that we are hollow, empty men. We lack passion and enthusiasm. Our efforts are fruitless like the running of rats or rustling grass.. We have formless shapes. We are just hollow and stuffed men.

Almighty God created everything for man. He created man to rule over this world. Man is sent in this world to get knowledge, about God and universe, to pray to

God and to serve the human beings.  
If man does not recognize himself, he cannot fulfill the object of his creation. Life without knowledge, wisdom and love is worthless. In these lines,, the poet points out such type of deficiencies.

The poet says tha 'we do not have knowledge and wisdom. Therefore, we are worthless men. We are stuffed men like puppets or dolls. We try to follow one another. We do not have knowledge and wisdom to lead others. Alas!

We do not have ability to listen to realities of life. We have nothing to say because we know gothing. 
 That is why our speech, is no more than the voices made by the grass or the rats.

The poet means to say that having no knowledge and wisdom we have no ability to lead others. We have no ability to listen to the good things and to convey valuable thoughts.

In this poem, the poet condemns the' jitual emptiness of modem man. He says that we fre hollow, empty men. We lack passion and erlthusiasm.

The poet talks the dead persons. He also talks about man's ignorance and dullness. .

The poet says that those who have already departed from this life do not know of our being frustrated or not. We seem to be only puppets made of straw. We have no ambition in our life. We are not anxious to get something. We have no goals to reach there. We are blind to the truth.We like to follow others. We do not like to get knowledge and to become a guiding star for Other people.

O where are you going? said reader to rider, 
That valley is fatal when furnaces burn, 
Yonder's the midden whose odors will madden, 
That gap is the grave where the tall return. 
 
O do you imagine,said fearer to farer, 
That dusk will delay on your path to the pass, 
Your diligent looking discover the lacking, 
Your footsteps feel from granite to grass? 
 
O what was that bird, said horror to hearer, 
 Did you see that shape in the twisted trees? 
 Behind you swiftly the figure comes softly, 
The spot on your skin is a shocking disease? 
 
 Out of this house‚ said rider to reader, 
Yours never will" ‚ said farer to fearer, 
They're looking for you ‚ said hearer to horror, 
As he left them there, as he left them there. 
 
Explaination of poem( O where are you going) 
 
This poem is a dialogue between a reader and a rider. The reader is a coward and lazy person. He tries to threaten the rider of the dangers in the vaiey. But the rider is ready to face every hardship witn a stout heart.

The traveller is ready to carry on his journey.He is very bold, brave and courageous. He is hopeful of reaching his destination after facing dangers and getting over them. The opposite force (reader) discourages the traveller (rider) from going beyond and says, "Where are you going?  
You are safe and sound here. The valley beyond is full of dangers. There are furnaces to burn everything. There are heaps of dung and rubbish on your way whose smell

This poem is a dialogue between a reader and a rider. The reader is a coward and lazy person.

He tries to threaten the rider of the dangers in the valley. But the rider is ready to face every hardship with a stout heart.

The traveller said to reader that God helps those who help themselves.  
The brave and courageous people are not afraid of hardships and sufferings of1 life. They take courage and continue

their struggle till success. They act on the prrnciple of

"do or die". On the other hand, the cowardly persons

like to remain idle in their houses. They every moment due to their fear of death. Hardships and sufferings rock around such persons. 
 They become victim of their fear and die. The traveller said so and went on his way leaving opposite force behind him. It is truly said that leave your cares behind you, your happiness will find you.

The poem is a dialogue between two imaginary persons personified as Reader and Rider.  
The Rider is a person who is bold, courageous and is ambitious to make his way

through thick and thin.

The Reader full of awe and reverence tells him that the valley beyond is full of dangers and that heaps of dung and rubbish lie on his journey ahead whose bad smell sickens and maddens the mind.  
 The opposite force is working at discouraging the traveler from going beyond. You may go farther and fare worse, the reader suggests. Fear and horror are trying to discourage the rider from going on his path.

The way to glory and success is vague and uncertain, but it can be paved through

with Courage and perseverance.

The reader is fearer, coward and lazy. He is not ready to get out of his house to learn and earn. He is frightened of hardships and miseries of life. On the other hand, the Rider is a bold, courageous and ambitious person.  
He is willing to learn and earn well. He is ready to take his way to success. The Reader tells him that the valley beyond is full of dangers. There are heaps of dung and rubbish lying ahead whose bad smell sickens and maddens the mind. 
 There are dangerous animals, evil spirits and fatal <a href="http://educational-wealth.blogspot.com/2014/01/some-common-diseases-and-antibiotics.html" target="_blank">diseases </a>on his way to success. He will die on the way in his attempt to reach the height of success. Listening this, the Rider said to the Reader that a brave person makes his way through thick and thin while a coward becomes victim of these crushing forces of life. After it, the Rider took his way leaving behind the distressed "Reader".  
 This poem teaches us a lesson that way to glory and success can be paved through with courage and perseverance.

After reading this poem readers are able to understand the difference between

two types of emotions i.e. courage and cowardice. "Courage" and

"cowardice"are two opposite forces.  
A coward has a large number of

fears. He cannot face hardships and realities of life. He also discourages other people to face hardships of life. On the other hand, a bold, brave and courageous fares hardships bravely and gets brilliant successes in his life.

William Blake was born on 28 November 1757 in London.He was a great 
artist and Poet.He was married in 1782 with Catherine Boucher.He went to 
school for few years .He left school when he was ten years old. His 
mother helped him in his studies. He was much interested in drawing.</div>

He was a great poet but he was also very famous for his work of 
illuminating painting . This was a work by which he could illuminating 
books very quickly.His wife helped him very much in his work . she was a
 hardworking lady.

William black's most important work was "Jarusalem"He sold many of his 
poems to other poets also . He joined Royal academy.He was a very good 
painter.

He died on 12 August 1827 .He made portrait of his wife that day and then
 died in a happy mood.

The sun does arise,  
And make happy the skies.  
The merry bells ring, 
To welcome the spring. 
 
The skylark and thrush,  
The birds of the bush. 
Sing louder around,  
To the bells’ cheerful sound. 
 
While our sports shall be seen, 
On the echoing green.  
Old John with white hair, 
Does laugh away care. 
 
Sitting under the oak,  
Among the old folk.  
They laugh at our play,  
And soon they all say:  
 
‘Such, such were the joys, 
 When we all, girls and boys, 
 In our youth-time were seen , 
On the echoing green.  
 
 Till the little ones weary, 
 No more can be merry. 
The sun does descend,  
And our sports have an end.  
 
Round the laps of their mother, 
Many sisters and brothers. 
 Like birds in their nest, 
 Are ready for rest.

Explaination (Echoing green) </h3>
The Echoing Green" by William Blake, taken from his "Songs of Innocence", is a beautiful short poem. Blake expresses the joy and innocence of the children’s early experience of life.

"The Echoing Green" begins with a short description of a grassy field on a warm day in spring. 
 The sun shines brightly. The sky looks beautiful. Pleasant sounds of bells come from the nearby church. Song birds sing cheerfully. The sounds of bells and the songs of the birds merge into a beautiful melody worthy of the season of spring

The old people of the village sit under the trees in the green while, on the green, young innocent children play their favourite games. 
 The children are happy and excited. They have not yet tasted the grief and disappointment that life will bring them in later years. They are young and healthy. The beautiful village green, the birds and the spring are all theirs. 
The old people watch their children play happily on the green and think of the. nappy days of their childhood They, too, had played on the same green and had their share of joy and excitement which only young children can experience.

Then the evening comes. Children grow tired. They return home to, rest in the laps of their sisters and mothers. 
This poem describes a scene on a grassy field. During the day 
 it is filled with the noises of the children playing different  
sports and games. When the sun sets, it becomes dark and lonely.  
In these lines the poet says that an old man John with grey hair is sitting under the oak tree. 
 Some other old men and women are also sitting there. They are watching the children at play. They want to forget their worries by sharing the joys of the children. During the day it is filled with noises of the children. Old men and women

watch the children at play.

In these lines the joy of childhood is contrasted with the gloomy old age in the form of sunset when the grassy field becomes the "darkening green. The poet says that the children continue to play on the grassy field till late in the evening.  
The sun begins to set and the tired children return to their homes. They have enjoyed themselves to their fill by playing different sports and games.  
At home they have rest and sleep in the company of their brothers and sisters. They seem to be like birds who have returned to their nests. The echoing green looks deserted and gloomy in the darkness of the evening.
