You do not see much of the groom and the marriage party as  it whizzes past you in a motorcade. However, a marriage procession passing through a street in the older part of the city is a wonderful sight Last Saturday while walking down a narrow street in the old city. In a few minutes the street was full of children. Some women came out of their houses and stood in little lanes on both sides of the street.People passing through the street slackened their pace. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Then I Know what the bang of the firecrackers and the sound of the drum meant. . A marriage procession was coming towards the street. As the noise of music and firecrackers grew louder, people moved to the sides of the street- Shop-keepers came out of their shops. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Everybody waited to see the marriage procession. At last the procession entered the street. At the head of the' procession was a band with drums, bag-pipes and flutes They wore colourful but rather Shabby uniforms. The bandmaster with an ornamental staff in his hand strutted in front of his men.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> Then came the marriage party. The bridegroom dressed in shalwar, qameez and achkan was sitting on a horse. His face was hidden behind a golden ‘sehra’. All around the horse were his relatives and friends walking on foot. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Some two hundred marriage guest followed. The marriage procession went on at a leisurely pace while women standing on roof tops and men and children lining both sides of the street watched every few minutes, a near relative of the bridegroom would take a handful of coins from a bag and toss them in the air. Beggers and children laughing and shouting, would rush this way and that were collect as many coins as they could. . </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The marriage procession took half an hour to reach the other end of the street and disappear round the corner. As the sound of music faded away, the women on the roof tops went down to attend to their household work, and the crowd gathered in the street slowly melted away. </span></div>

After a good deal of persuasion my father agreed to give me sufficient1 money for the journey I had fears that he might reconsider his decision. So the moment he agreed, I packed my clothes and a few text books and went to the station. A porter was kind enough to push me -into a compartment through a window. The door had been besiege by a crowd of passengers who were pushing each other all over the platform After paying the porter, I looked around the compartment. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">It was full to capacity. Some people were standing. Among their I found an old friend of mine. In the school he was well known for picking a quarrel with everyone who happened to be near him. While we were greeting each other, the train whistled and began to move .</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Once again I searched the compartment to find a vacant seat. On one berth there were only three men .They had piker their luggage on it. Too. 1 asked my friend that if the luggage was removed, we could comfortably sit there. He said that he would not ask them to remove then things, because they had helped him to enter the compartment .</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> I took out a magazine and tried to read it. But 1 could not read it.I was tired. My clothes were wet with perspiration There were four fans in the compartment but no breath of air reached me 1 put my head out of a window and a gust of burning air slapped my face. 1 withdrew my head The prospect' of a long, uncomfortable journey depressed' me. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">1 curse the time when I had thought of going to Karachi. By now I' was desperate and ready to pick a quarrei with the devil himself. I walked up to the berth with only three men on it Without saying anything. I picked up their suit-cases and thrust them under the seat. “What are you doing’' one of them shouted it is not your luggage ” But by that time I was sitting on that berth, so I replied calmly, “You arc right,’that is not my luggage". </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I beckoned my friend, and he came and sat down beside me. The three gentlemen did not ask me another question. The sun had set and the train had reached Rohri .1 opened my tiffin box and invited my friend and the three gentlemen to share my dinner. They readily accepted and unpacked their own dinner baskets, too. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">All of us enjoyed the meal. I was feeling sleepy, I put my head on the back of the berth, and stretched my legs. Before long, I was fast asleep. It was broad daylight when, my friend shook me roughly and said that we were reaching Karachi in a few minutes.</span></div>

Our college had arranged this tour. Our Professor, Mr. Nacem Hassan, was incharge of the party. All of us had looked forward to this tour. The journey was long The winter was more severe than usual. But we were happy, and the long, slow journey did not dampen our high spirits. Next day we reached Karachi late in the afternoon. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">We went straight to the Boy Scouts Hostel on the New Queens Road where we had arranged to stay. On our way to the hostel we had our first view of Karachi. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The very first thing we noticed was that the roads were very wide. The traffic was , much greater than that we had seen in Lahore. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The  number of cars we saw on the roads indicated the prosperity of the city. The buildings were really palatial. On reaching the Hostel we felt tired. We decided to spend, the evening quietly in our rooms. Next day, early in the morning, we began our tour of the city. First of all we went to the mazar of our beloved leader, Quaid-i-Azam, to pay our homage.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> After offering fatcha we went to the house where <a href="http://educational-wealth.blogspot.com/2013/12/quaid-i-azam-muhammad-ali-jinnah.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #cc0000;">Quid-i- Azam</span></a>; was born .It was an old three-storied building. The room where our leader was born was on the first floor. Some of the furniture and clothes of-Quhid-i- Azain were on show in the room. After this we went to Cliften Beach, the most popular picnic resort in Karachi. .There we saw the sea for the first time.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> A great expanse of water was before us. It stretched as far as the eye could see. We went into the sea for a swim. Our Professor was all the time advising us to go very far in the sea. After the swim, we had tea in a restaurant on it's beach. It was now time for lunch So we returned to the city. After taking a lunch we felt rather tired and decided to rest for a couple of hours. In the evening we went out and roamed in the bazars till late in the night.Karachi is a big city. The bazars and roads were full of people.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> Every one seemed to be in a hurry, The big hotels of Karachi were splendid buildings. They were richly decorated .Very brightly lift and filled with the sounds of music and laughter. Ncxt day we visited Karachi port and Maiiora Island The naval authorities very kindly allowed us to visit the PNS Jehilum .The officers and men of the ship were very courteous. They slaved us all over the slup and explained everything we wanted to learn.In the evening, we went to see the airport. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The first item on our programme for the next day was a visit to the State Bank. It was a magnificent building.It was even stories high .We were very much impressed by its roof,garden and tastefully decorated conference hall and library. The rest of the day we spent in visiting the National Museum and the Karachi Zoo. It was our last day in Karachi.arachi, but had heard from people that it was a wonderful city. </span><br /> <br /></div>

There was great rush in the train. Almost every compartment was full of suffocation .</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I managed to get one of them, but I could not find any seat over there. I had to keep standing till train reached Gujrat. Then I thanked God and sat down to rest my weary legs. After two hours, the train reached the Rawalpindi at 5 pm. I engaged a coolie to carry my luggage. I hired taxi and reached my hostle.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">I enjoyed sound sleep last night. But I still feeling rather tired. It is the best way of enjoying nature. In our country, the hills are popular resorts for hiking, because there you see nature in all its beauty. Last year in summer, I had a chance to go on a hiking trip in the company of some friends. We planned a cross-country walk in the Murrce Hills. We made necessary preparations and reached Murree by bus, and spend the night there. Early in the morning we got up, collected our things and set out. The sky was clear blue, and the morning was pleasant. Soon we were out of the town. The road ended on the top of a hill, and a small narrow track led downward windng through tail, graceful pines.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> The green turf was under our feet and the pine branches over our heads. The sun had risen and its rays fell on the earth where the trees were not thick. It was a pleasure to walk, for we were in no hurry. The scene was glorious, and the morning was quiet and cool. We were speechless with wonder and delight. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">We walked leisurely wherever that winding path led us, up and down the hills. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">About midday, we reached an open spacc among the trees and suddenly a gentle breeze blew in our faces. It was cool and brought with it a soft murmuring sound. A few steps further, we came upon a spring. The clear water spurted from the earth and ran down the slope rippling and sparkling in the sun. I had never before seen such a delightful scene.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> We sat down on the soft grass near the spring. One of my companions brought out his camera and took many photographs. We were tired and hungry now. So we unpacked our lunch. As we finished eating, a gentle drowsiness overcame us and we fell asleep. It was 4 o’clock when we woke up. We resinned our hike and, an hour later, we reached the narrow valley below.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> There were a dozen small stone houses. As we reached near a house, a sheep dog appeared all of a sudden and stood in our way. It barked rather threateningly. Now I never trust dogs, though wise people say that barking dogs seldom bite. But who knows when a dog will stop.barking and start biting! So I stopped where I was. And so did my friends.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> Now it was the turn of the children. They came and stared at us until an elderly man came out of a house and scared them away. He was good and hospitable. We stayed the night in that village and returned to Murrcc the next morning. His father was appointed civil governor of Sines in the 1460s  until 1478.He studied at the inland town of Évora, where he  learned mathematics and navigation .IHe studied under the <b><i>astronomer </i></b>Abraham Zacuto. Around 1480, da Gama followed his father and joined the Order of Santiago. The master of Santiago was Prince John. In 1492, John II dispatched da Gama on a mission to the port of Setúbal.</span>But he and by going round the African Continent ultimately reached India in 1498 A.D. He landed at the Indian port of Calicut. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">He was the first European to reach India by sea.He was  linking Europe and Asia for the first time by ocean .This discovery was significant and opened the way for an age of global imperialism .</span></div>

D. at Tangier. From the early childhood he was very fond of studying geography. Travelling in those days was very difficult and of dangers. There was no guides or maps and people travelled on horse-back. Inspite of all these, difficulties, ibne-Batuta travelled through almost all the Muslim countries. Ibne Batuta was twenty one years old when in 1325 A.D. he got a chance to accompany a caravan from Tunis to Egypt. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">Ibne Batuta wanted to go for Haj but made a detour. He went to Baitul-Muqaddas and from there he went to Syria and then to Makkah. He stayed there for some years. He went for visit of holy places to Iran and Iraq and made the next trip to Central Asia.After that trip, Ibne Batuta set his face towards India. Passing through Samarqand, Bukhara and Kabul, he reached Delhi via Sukkur and Multan. Delhi at that time was being ruled by Muhammad Tughlaq. The Sultan was greatly impressed by his intelligence and knowledge and gave him the office of a Qazi (judge). </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The Sultan then nominated Ibne Batuta as his Ambassador to China. On his way, he made halts at Maldives and Sri Lanka and gave very fine accounts of those places. After going through many dangers, he reached China by the sea route. He is full of praise for the artistic taste of the Chinese, their nice houses and efficient. police system. He was particularly impressed by their methods of agriculture. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> Ibne Batuta lived in China for five years and then decided to return. From China, he came to Java and Calicut and again entered India from the southern side. </span></div>

The woodseller agreed.The barber asked his servant to unload the wood and also the Wooden saddle. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The woodseller protested and said that the saddle was no part of the fuel wood. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">But the barber replied, “Old man I have paid for all the wood on the donkey’s back. The saddle is made of wood and it is there on the donkey's back.” So saying, he seized the saddle and ordered his servants to throw the wood seller in the street. The woodseller went to the Caliph. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The caliph could not help him, because the terms of the bargain favoured the barber. But he did offer the poor man a piece of good advice. The next day, the woodseller went to the barber’s shop and asked him to shave him and his friend. He offered to pay two dinars for it. The barber shaved the woodseller and then told him to bring his friend. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The woodseller went out and brought his donkey. The barber flew into a rage. “How dare you play a silly joke on me ? I, the barber to the King’s courtiers, shave your donkey! Get out of here, before 1 break your skull,” he said. The woodseller went to the Caliph once again. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">The Caliph called the barber before him. After listening to the statements of the parties, the Caliph pronounced: “The woodseller is in the right. If the saddle of a donkey can be a part of the fuel wood, the donkey can very well be a man’s companion and friend.” Then he ordered the barber to shave the donkey in the presence of all the courtiers. His legs went numb by hopping on the hard, cold sheet of ice.</span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;"> Then he saw an army of ants out of a dried and hollow stump of a tree. He approached them and begged for food. “How is it that your food has run short in the beginning.of the winter the ants asked him. “1 had not stored an food,” he replied in a faint voice, “I sang and danced and did not realized at the winter would be cruel.” The ants were no less cruel than the Winter. </span><br /> <span style="font-size: large;">‘ Why should we give you food ? What can you give us in return ?” they demanded “I will sing and dance for you,” he replied.
