Literature gives us a picture of the thoughts feelings and experiences about this world and n life in general. Literature is a criticism of life seen through a temperament; hence the study of literature is a of various temperaments. Life is variegated, its facts and problems are multifarious and a study of literature gives us life freely and abundantly.<br />
Literature is a pleasant pastime, an enjoyable companion in all ages and conditions of health. When we relax in an armchair after the day’s work, a story or a poem soon lulls our fagged brains to refreshing ease and slumber. The ingenuity of man has discovered in literature the talisman that provides him wings to fly.<br />
Life is a bed of thorns. Shelley calls it a dim vale of tears. In reading literature, we find an escape from the fever, the fret and the weariness of this world. Reading books is thus a pleasure, and the best writers are those who please us the most “Literature exists to please - to lighten the burden of liver; to make them for a short while, forget their wows and their sins, their silenced hearts, their disappointed hopes, their grim futures.<br />

Democracy, which has been defined by Abraham lincolin is “The government of the people,<br />by the people and for the people.” It is a form of government in which, ideally, all<br /> the inhabitants of a country have the power to decide what laws they will have and how<br /> their government will be fomM and run. This system is based on the direct approval of<br /> the public. <br />In Pakistan, we see different types of systems. The real misfortune of our country was the <br />death of the Quaid-e- Azam. He succeeded in winning for us a separate country but he <br />could not get enough time to set it at the track of democracy.<br />
The progress of democracy<br /> in Pakistan has been most irregular and unsatisfactory for several different reasons. -We can <br />make Pakistan as a democratic country by adopting the major principles of democracy. <br />Firstly, the successful working of democracy anywhere is possible when the people as a whole, are educated and ' well-informed. When the people of the country are educated they have the right to decide the way and means in which the affair of their country will be conducted. Democracy has become synonymous with freedom. Its citizens are free men and women and they enjoy certain rights and freedom. <br />Secondly, democracy has also got economic meanings. Here it means complete absence of exploitation in any sense. Everybody gets full fruit of his labour. No one is a parasite. There is no concentration of wealth the hands-of the few.<br />
The distribution of wealth flows in the society in a just and fair manner. Thirdly, social and economic democracy must precede political democracy.<br /> Only then democracy can exist in its true spirit, otherwise, not. Free expression of opinion and criticism are the fundamental principles of democrats If there is no social and economic democracy, then political democracy will become only a show business, a farce. <br />Fourthly, Pakistan has a written constitution and thus this state has to be run only in accordance with the constitution. Anything, which violates the constitution is, therefore, void and must be ignored. As a matter of fact, a citizen of a democracy can do whatever he likes provided in doing so he does not have a right to hurt other people or trample upon their rights. <br />In short, if the elected members are the true representatives of the people, democracy! can work successfully in Pakistan. Otherwise, every times the general election will result in disaster.<br />There must be proper checks on our political leaders so that they may not be able to cross their limits.Only this thing can make democracy a successful government in Pakistan<br /></div>
