very harmful to society. They do more to poison the stream of general 
life than all the crimes in the history. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Bad manners cause a lot of 
injury to our sense of self-respect. Injury to our body soon passes away
 but an injury to our feelings may poison our life. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If
 the officer insults his subordinate, the subordinate insults his peon. 
The peon will be angry with his wife. His wife will be angry with his 
cook. In this way, bad manners are sure to poison the atmosphere. </span><br />

 writer believes that good manners are also infectious. If we are polite
 and civil to others then he will be polite and civil to others. In this
 connection, we take an example of a conductor. The behaviour of the bus
 conductor impressed him greatly.</span><br />

the bus when conductor approached him for a ticket. The writer did not 
have the purse with him. He was worried and upset at the

 is a novelist and a story teller. In the novel ‘The Old Man And The 
Sea’ he portrays very beautifully the old man's encounter with Marlin. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The story shows how a man can triumph in spite of defeat. Santiago, the 
hero of The Old Man And The Sea is a professional fisherman. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">He went for
 fishing and saw one of his fishing lines shaking as a marlin was eating
 sardines covering the hook about 600 feet below his boat. The marlin 
after it was hooked started pulling the boat. He wished he had the boy 
with him. Marlin continued to tow the boat. Like two companions, the old
 man and the fish sailed smoothly for quite time.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> The old man wished 
repeatedly that the bdy were there. He fought with marlin bravely which 
is reflected in the following lines when he says ‘Man can be destroyed 
but not defeated. </span><br />

 die. He was determined to hit his goal. He says, Man is not made for 
defeat He also says that I may not be strong as I think but I know many

<span style="font-size: large;">Ans: The hero is defeated by circumstances but he does not accepts 
defeat and goes on struggling. This way he wins moral victory over 
physical defeat. Santiago is a fisherman who goes out for fishing far in
 the sea.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> He succeeds in fishing a huge marlin. He succeeds in killing 
the fish after a tiresome struggle of forty-eight hours. He lashes it 
with its skiff and sets sail for home. After some time, the dead marlin 
is attacked by the sharks.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> They eat away all the meat of the marlin and 
he is left with nothing. The old man suffers a lot during the course of 
his adventure. He has to face the attack of sharks. They eat every bit 
of marlin. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">What is left was only the skeleton of the marlin. During the 
fight with sharks, his hands are bleeding even then he does not lose his
 heart but says, ‘man is not made for defeat’. His sorrows and
