Question no 2: In Unit 4, Page 70, you have read a brief description of a ‘grandmother’. Exercise 4 asks you to describe the four people. Choose any one and write a brief description of that person.

I have a lot of friends. But Mr. Ali is my best friend. He is fifteen years old. He is studying in class tenth at the Pak Public School, Lahore. He is five feet seven inches. He is slim and active. He has fair complexion with an oval face. He has brown eyes and black hair. His hobbies are watching adventure cartoon films and playing cricket. He also likes visiting new places. He has a small family with two brothers and one sister. His father works in an office. Ali intends to become a doctor. He has a very pleasant nature and has a lot of friends.

Question no 3: Read the letter written to Robert by Faraz on Page 74 in Part B ‘Reading & Writing’ in Unit 4. After reading the letter, solve exercise 9 given on page 75 in which you have to fill in the table with information that Faraz gives about himself in the letter.

Question no 4: Read Unit 5 ‘Using the Library’. Go to page 84 and solve Exercise 3 in which you have to list five things that you would like to do and need librarian’s permission. Write appropriate expressions of asking permission or making requests as given on Page 82.

For example: You want to use the computer in the library. You ask the librarian’s permission: Sir, I’d like to ask a favour. Can I use the library’s computer for an hour, please?

1. A library is a store house of knowledge.
A library can help you with your studies.
A library can also help you find any kind of information.
2. All library books are listed by author and subject in the card catalogue.
3. The number by which a nonfiction book is filed on a library shelf is called a call number.
4. A dictionary helps in learning a language. It helps in getting the correct spelling of a word, its sounds, its grammar and meanings.
5. An almanac is published each year, having facts, statistics and other kinds of information. An encyclopedia gives a summary of information about every subject.it may contain 10 or 20 volumes. Unlike almanac, in encyclopedia subjects are listed alphabetically in each volumne.

Question no 7: Read the first page of Unit 6 ‘Using a Dictionary’. What is a ‘Dictionary’? Write a brief definition I description of a dictionary

Answer:
A dictionary is the most useful resource book which helps in learning any language. A dictionary can help in getting the correct spelling of a word, its pronunciation, its grammar and meaning. In a dictionary, words are arranged in an alphabetical order. It means all the words starting with “A” come before words starting with “B”, “C” or “D”. there are different types of dictionaries such as a simple beginner’s dictionary, and an advance dictionary that is heavier in size, with huge number of words, meanings and a lot of other useful information.
