Broadly speaking, illiteracy can be deemed as incapability of a person to read and write. Opposite to it is the literacy.
Every Muslim knows that the first command revealed by Allah to the Holy Prophet to Islam (PBUH) was ‘Read’. The great Persian Poet Saadi declared that an illiterate person is incapable of comprehending God’s ways.
Literacy, over the centuries, has become the lever of human progress and the leveller of social and economic conditions. It is a basic human need, and a human right to seek knowledge. Illiteracy is a brake on human development. It is a challenge to human dignity and imposes a second class status on a person in all societies. Life without literacy is life without hope, security and freedom.
In our country, a large number of people are unaware of the implications of its literacy. It must be understood by everyone that our huge illiteracy rate continues to severely

Following are the steps which may be taken in reforming and over-hauling this system:
(i) A uniform education policy, throughout the country, should be maintained.

(ii)    Motive should be quite dear to use and this would, , obviously, enhance the Ideology of Pakistan.

(iii) Ability and merit must be dedared cornerstone of our national life.

(iv) Financial assistance should be same and alike for all.

(v) The criteria of admission, in all educational institutions, should only be the merit.

(vi) Spedal attention should be given towards vocational and technical side.

(vii) Free education uptil secondary level must be guaianteed.

(viii) Number of scholarships should considerably be increased.

(ix) Financial organizations along with banks should lend a helping hand to the promotion
of identific and technological aspects of education.
We need a progressive system of education, a system which must be sustainable through the process of growth and development that our country may experience; a system by which our young generation could prepare itself to face, fight and win the struggles of life and increase the chances of success.
