Wherever small- farmers were 'taii-enders they are subjected to discrimination because water is stolen at the tail end of the canal, before it can reach them. Farmers were being subjected to poverty despite , having cultivable land. <br />I have evidence of theft on tape. Kindly investigate it and take ungent decidive action against these thieves. The old man  going without fish becomes "Salao" and eventually his boat an “unlucky boat. The relationship between old man and the boy marks the two-faceted reality of human relationship i.e.. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">(a) one of youth and age, and </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">(b) that of master-disciple. <br />However, the decision forced on the boy by his parents shows the impatient nature of human beings and their selfishness towards the unlucky and lowly. The boy naturally has sympathy for the old but determined Santiago. Nevertheless, he is not all owed despite his greatest desire to reioin him. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This restriction does certainly not keep him from visiting old man. He not only serves the old man, but also takes care of all his major businesses. The boy appears to be a semblance of the disciples of Jesus Christ in the novel. He is fully devoted to the cause and personality of Santiago. Moreover, he respects the old man's ideas and appreciates his  youth-like aptitude for baseball <br />Manolin is indeed an equal of the old man in some ways. <br />We see the peak of this encouragement bond in the end when the old man is beaten by the sharks and he laments, saying: “I am not lucky. I am not lucky anymore.* The boy immediately rejoins him answering in art encouraging as well as healing tone:-“The hell with luck, I'll bring the luck with me. The old man fully understands the nature of this relationship and gives it great value. . <br />Only one utterance of old man, namely, “I missed you (Manolin)”, is sufficient to make us believe how greatly the old man is associated with the boy. The boy has a firm belief that there is only one great fisherman, Santiago. He can be seen crying in the end when the old man returns despaired and injured. Manolin cannot stand the sight of his state and he runs out of his shack'to get him coffee and eatables. <br />His decisions to rejoin the old man without caring for his parents shows his deep affection for the old man. Santiago, on the other hand, finds in Manolin the incarnation of his youth and skill. He is his family and his disciple simultaneously. We can, therefore, conclude on solid grounds that Manolin is not only an apprentice of the old man, but also his trusted friend and, in  some ways, his equal. <br /></span></p>

Santiago sees the second shark coming and utters the single work “Ay". There is no translation of this work. He feels sorry for his big fish. But he is confident and resolute. “But a man is not made for dfefeat”, he said, "A man can be destroyed but not defeated”. He tries to cheer up his spirits. He thinks about many things including baseball. He enjoys his killing the shark. Santiago kills the sedond and third sharks, hateful, bad smelling sea-vengers as well as killers with his knife lashed to an oar. But when the <br />gallons take with them fully a quarts of the Marlin’s best meat. “I wish it were a dream and that I had never hooked it," says the Old Man, “I am sorry about it, fish. It makes everything wrong. Santiago kills the gallons but it breaks Santiago’ knife. . <br />By the time, the Old Man has clubbed the fifth and the sixth sharks put into death just at sun set. But a full half of the Marlin has been eaten away. “What will you do now if they come in the night?" Asks the voice inside the Santiago. <br />The sun sets. What could he do iri the darkness of night? “Fight them", he says. It seems that the Old Man has lost this fight  as there is nothing left of the great fish except the skeleton. But he succeeds to save his' honour and dignity. His honorable fight proves him the greatest fisherman. He proves that he can never be defeated. It is not the big fish who has beaten him. He will be  counted as the undefeated fisherman. </span></p>

Besides the cultivator, every village has a blacksmith, b carpenter, a potter, a barber, a weaver, an oilman, a grocer, a mason, a physician and sometimes a very qualified schoolmaster. Fairs are an interesting feature of the village life in the Punjab. These fairs are generally held either at the tomb of a saint or after the harvest time, The villagers put on . their colourful garments and take a day off from their busy life. They dance, sing and hold wrestling matches, and “fleet the time as carelessly as they did in the Golden Age." <br />Village life has many attractions. Articles of daily use like butter, milk, eggs, vegetables are cheap. People are simple and sympathetic. They will lend you a helping hand for the mere asking. They will share your sorrows as readily as they share your joys. The life in a village is comparatively quiet. There are no disagreeable sights, smells and sounds. which are so common in big cities. <br />This is only one side of the picture. Village life has its drawbacks too. The people are ignorant, superstitious and fdnd of litigation. They enjoy very few facilities of modern life. There are no schools and hospitals, no theatres or gardens. The cultivator lives a life of woeful poverty. His house is like a stable; the children are ill-fed and uneducated. <br />Now, when we have become free, we should do something to improve the conditions of the people living in villages. In fact, these people are the backbone of our economic life. With a little attention towards sanitation and education, Villages can become the pride of Pakistan. But teacher is like a ladder which remains at its place,,but helps others go higher and higher. So, instead of being an engineer, a doctor, or an officer, it is better to be an engineer-maker, a doctor-maker, an officer-maker. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It is only the men that glorify a nation, and these men are made in the teaching institutions. Secondly, I am suited to this profession. I take pleasure in solving problems and explaining  them to others. I am fond of reading and teaching. By adopting this profession, I will be able to lead a life of learning. Thirdly, inquisitive natures may ask if I want to be a professor, why a professor of English. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The answer is that English Literature is my favourite subject. A man can serve his nation well only when he has some interest in the work he is performing. <br />Realization of such a noble ambition is possible only when a man devotes all his time to studies.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> Keeping this in view, I work hard and make intensive study of English Literature. In future, I hope to produce such men as would be of great service to the coming generation. By being a professor, I can do much for my country in another way. The biggest number of those who are .killed, about 55,000 die in road accidents of one kind or another. <br />In Pakistan, though no authentic figures are available; the situation Is not very different; on closer examination, we will find it even grimmer, The number of accidents that are . dally reported in the Press or on the TV and Radio, Is enough to convince you that our roads have become veritable death traps for us. <br />In the occurrence of road accidents, the negligence and ignorance of human beings plays a major part In Pakistan. Most of the drivers are either Illiterate or incompetent or both. Many <br />of them drive their vehicles without licences or on fake licences The number of institutions where training in driving equid be imparted is negligible. A law which makes it incumbent on the owners of commercial vehicles to provide retiring rooms for  drivers and to get work out of them for a fixed number of hours 1 does exist on paper, but it is seldom put into practice. <br />Most of the drivers drive their vehicles over distances of two hundred and fifty miles. They work for long hours. This saps  their energies and they become addicts -of intoxicants and , narcotics. The cumulative effect of all these things is that their senses of perception and judgment are impaired and they cause accidents. Road accidents also occur either due to negligence or over speeding of vehicles.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> But drivers alone are not to blame for 1 them. Their root-cause is the system of issuing route permits. At j present, anyone who can afford to .buy a bus or a wagon is .1 automatically entitled to the route permit. Route permits are issued without ascertaining hoyv many buses or wagons can be  safely plied on a certain route. The excessive and indiscriminate issuance   route permits causes over-speeding because the buses and wagons are innumerable and the  competition among them is very hard. <br />The condition of most of the roads and highways is really' deplorable. They are riot wide enough to accommodate the vehicular traffic, the-volume of which is rapidly increasing. The material used in their construction and repair is usually sub­standard, The process of breaking starts, sooner than expected. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The roads also play a major role in causing accidents. <br />The traffic police ought to start refresher courses for drivers so that they may learn the latest techniques.- A driving school should be set up in the vicinity of every major bus and „ truck stand. The service conditions of drivers and transport workers should ‘be made more attractive. At present, drivers and conductors are paid paltry, salaries but they earn huge amounts of commission. This difference between the two must end, otherwise the drivers will continue to indulge in over­speeding and causing accidents.</span></p>

I t is obvious to us that Santiago’s greatness as a fisherman lies in the past. <br />The last section of the novel describes the Old Man's return to his shack and the reaction of the various people to his exploit. The whole of this short section is deeply moving- The Old Man’s journey up the hill, his having to rest several times on the way, his falling into a deep slumber, an examination of the marlin’s skeleton by the various fishermen on the seashore and, above all, the boy Manolin’s feelings on the occasion, these are all intensely poignant.</span>

No doubt, there are black sheep in the profession whose sole aim, like quacks, is to earn money by hook or by crook; they do not desist even from adopting unethical practices’ or resorting to heretical methods to give fillip to their practice. But a vast majority of them are still ethical in their ways and do not step out,of the prescribed limits. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br />To keep people in good health is not the main object of the profession; that is the job of other people. Their duty is to cure the sick people and advise them how best they prevent the recurrence of the same illness. <br />Medical profession has made great strides* during the last fifty or so years. It has found* cures for diseases previously considered incurable. It is, In fact, surgery in which the profession has risen to great heights. Such operations as the removal of diseased appendix which were previously considered complicated have now become a routine.
