Is Ole Andreson a coward? Discuss with reference to “The Killers”._____
Ans:Ole Andreson is the man hunted by the two professional cut-throats, Al and Max. He had been a heavyweight prize fighter. He was a tall fellow, too tall for his bed. We saw him lying on the bed, with his full clothes on, and with his head on two pillows.
We do not know much about him. For example, we do not know why the fillers wished to kill him. We know that they wanted to kill him to please their friend but why the friend wanted to kill him; that is a secret. Near the end of the story, there was a guess put forth by George as to the motive of the murder, but then it was only a guess. George said that he might have "double-crossed” somebody.
Ole Andreson listened to the news about the killers told to him by Nick in a very quiet manner. He seemed to be quite uninfluenced by the news although he thanks j Nick for bringing the news to him. He remained lying on I his bed, looking towards the wall. He did not show any emotional response to the news. He was so fed up with his race with the killers that now he had resigned himself to his fate. He had struggled hard to save life. But now he felt that there was no use' escaping death. He was ready to face death at any time. Living all his life very actively, he become totally passive now, it showed that he was not coward.
