How does Smirnov make a fun of Popova in “The Bear”?

This play is written by Great play writer Anton ChekhovPopova is the principal character of the play. Popova is a young beautiful widow. She is a woman of sentimental and imaginative thinking. She is deeply shocked at the death of her husband. She makes a decision not to come out of the four walls of her house till the last moment of her life. She decides not to marry again.
Smirnov is a retired military officer and a rich! landlord. He is harsh and uncivilized in his behaviour. Though he appears to be a realistic and sane person, yet he too is a sentimental man. His attitude towards Popova is very aggressive.
He tells Popova that she only do this to attract the attention of men. Popova feels insulted and calls him ‘a boor’, ‘a coarse bear and 'a monster.’ Smirnov challenges her for fight, but after some time, Smirnov becomes sentimental as he comes close to her.
He puts his arm around Popova's neck and proposed her. Popova's anger is melted under the magical effect of Smirnov's love. She shed off her sentiments and decided to marry him. Her act makes her funny due to her big emotions.
