Democracy has become synonymous with freedom. Its citizens are free men and women and they enjoy Certain rights and freedom. <br />Secondly, democracy has also got economic meanings. Here it means complete absence of exploitation in any sense. Everybody gets full fruit of his labour. No one is a parasite. There is1 no concentration of wealth in the hands of the few. The r distribution of wealth flows in the society in a just and fair manner. <br />Thirdly, social and economic democracy must precede political democracy. Only then democracy can exist in its true a , spirit, otherwise, not. Free expression of opinion and criticism are the fundamental principles of democracy. If there is no social and economic democracy, then political democracy will become only a show business, a farce. <br />Fourthly, Pakistan has a written constitution and thus this state has to be run only in accordance with the constitution. Anything, which violates the constitution is, therefore,,void and must be ignored. As a matter of fact, a citizen of a democracy can do whatever he likes provided in doing so he does not have a right to hurt other people or trample upon their rights. <br />In short, if the elected members are the true representatives of the people, democracy can work successfully in Pakistan. Otherwise, every times the general’elections will result in disaster. There must be proper checks on our political leaders so that they may not be able to cross their limits. Only this thing can make democracy a successful government in Pakistan. </span>

The Government has a plan to ‘construct 2,800 hotels in Pakistan, solely for this purpose in the next Five-year plan.  Tourism and its development in the country has many advantages. First, Pakistan is‘a developing country. Pakistan needs foreign exchange for planning and development projects. Promotion of tourism can help us greatly in this, matter. First of’ all, free closes are given to them. 6nce they become addicts, they are under the control of these dealers to death. <br />To check this evil, the government should plan measures sincerely. The network of the drug dealers Should be broken. Cultivation and production of opium has been stopped. Persuasive as well as coercive measures are being adopted to stop this heroin business. Cooperation of other countries like the USA, Britain, West Germany and Canada has bean sought to counter its spread, the treatment of addicts is done through counselling; In Pakistan, 26 weaning treatment centers have been established throughout the country. Severe punishments are awarded to those who conduct this obnoxious business. • <br />Spreading drug addiction is a challenge to us.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> The parents should be alert and keep a close watch on their children. Children should be advised properly in this matter. Manolin had no money of his own. Santiago had enough fresh bait for his lines. The old man accepted his kindness with humility that was like a quiet kind of pride. At night alone in his shack, Santiago dreams of lions on the beaches of Africa where he had gone on a sailing ship years before. He no longer dreamed of his dead wife.<br /> On the eighty-fifth day, Santiago rowed out of the harbour in the cool dark before dawn. After leaving the land behind him, he set his lines. Two of his baits were fresh tunas the boy had given him, as well as sardines to cover his hooks.<br /> The lines went straight into deep dark water. As the sun rose, he saw other boats towards shore, which was only a low green line on the sea. A hovering bird showed him where dolphins were chasing some flying fish, but his shoal was moving too fast. The bird circled again. This time Santiago saw tuna leaping in the sunlight.<br /> A small one took the hook on his stern line. Hauling the quivering fish aboard, the old man thought it a good omen.<br /> Toward noon, a marlin started nibbling at the bait which was one hundred fathom down. The fish did not surface instead, it began to tow the skiff to the northwest. Although he was alone and no longer strong, he had his skill and knew many tricks. He waited patiently for the fish to tire. The old man shivered in the cold that came after sunset.<br />  When something took one of his remaining baits, he cut the line with his sheath knife. Once the fish lurched suddenly, pulling Santiago forward on his face and cutting his cheek. By dawn, his left hand was stiff and cramped.<br /> The fish headed northward there was no land in sight. Another strong tug on the line sliced Santiago's right hand. Hungry, he cut strips from the tuna and chewed them slowly while he waited for the sun to warm him and ease his cramped fingers. That morning the fish jumped. Seeing it leap, Santiago knew he had looked the biggest marlin he had ever seen.<br /> Then the fish went under and turned toward the east. Santiago dragged sparingly from his water bottle during the hot afternoon.<br /> In spite of ail hardships, the old man never loses his hope and continued his struggle to achieve his goal. We can say that novel is full of elements of hope. As the Santiago says, “I will try it as long as I have the oars and the short club and the tiller.”<br /> On another occasion, when the marlin could pull the skiff downward into the water, the old man was very careful and says,<br /> “We are joined together and have been since noon. And no one to help. And no one to help either of us.
