A pure poet feels and expresses his joy in beauty, but when he feels this joy, he realizes also a new aspect'of beauty, which is truth. In this identity of Beauty and Truth lies the secret harmony of the universe. John Keats realizes this harmony when he emphatically says:
Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty, that is all, Ye know on earth, and'all ye need to know
Beauty transcends individuals, time and space. For Keats, Beauty is truth. He arrived at this truth through “negative capability” and through realization of the necessity of pain and sorrow.
Many writers, poets and philosophers talk about beauty and truth. William Wordsworth is a great lover of natural beauty and he loves flowers, plants, gardens and mountains. Shakespeare is also a great lover of nature but he mostly talks about the human nature and describes love, hate and jealousy. Some writers describe the beauty of their beloveds arid they only talk about their physical love.
According to John Keats, beauty is not merely a physical charm rather it is a reality that lies at Finality. This ultimate
reality is an embodiment of truth. He wants.to discover this ultimate truth, so he wants to know a sense of self-identity. Hence, by virtue of self-identity, John Keats recognizes beauty, which is truth as beauty, goodness, truth and reality becomes same in the world of Finality. John Keats says:
“A thing of beauty is a joy forever?
He finds happiness, joy, pleasure, peace and self-identity in beauty which.is the only way to reach the Finality. Therefore, being a pure poet and a poet of beauty and truth, he after attaining maturity of mind and art, wishes to leave this world as soon as possible only to enjoy Finality.
In short, John Keats created beauty in his poetry; and to lovers of beauty, his poetry will provide an epicurean feast of delight. Is there a man who is not fascinated by beauty? Keats is the poet of beauty and he has left behind lovely and charming pictures of beauty; the beauty of women, the beauty of nature and the beauty of sorrow. Keats loved Nature and his poetry is replete with, beautiful description on Nature.
