(i) Why did Arthur disagree with Norma?
Arthur was an honest and morally strong manv so he disagreed with Norma in killing someone for money.

The subject
discussed there was success Jin life. Jorkens said that with
determination, anything could be done but Terbut said that chance or
opportunity! was needed for success.
(iii) Why didn’t Jess’
father follow the advice of doctors?
Jess’ father did not follow
the advice of the doctors because he had to raise his family. Besides,
he would die if he left work.
(iv) Why didn’t the Mayor believe
the innocence of Hubert?
Ans: The Mayor didn’t believe the innocence
of Hubert because Mr. Hubert’s explanation was not appealing. It was
unimaginable that he would have picked only a piece of string from the
ground. Moreover, Manana was a man of good reputation, so it was
difficult to doubt that he coukj be mistaken.
(v) How did the diseased king recover?
The king recovered by the grace of Allah Almighty.
He took pity on the boy and Allah took pity on him. His good deed was rewarded by the Supreme
Being.
(vi) How did the camel-men cure their camel?
A melon stuck in camel's throat. The camel-man saw this and feared that the camel would die. So he rushed to it. He tied a blanket round its neck and hit the place with full force. The melon broke into pieces and the camel swallowed it easily. In this way, the camel-man cure his camel.

His dream is that one day his nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of his creed. All black and white people will have equal rights and will be judged on merit not on the colour of the skin.

(i) What is the significance of the storm in the play “Heat Lightning”?
Ans: Storm is a symbol of horror and fear. It also indicates uncertainty. The storm matches dreadful and mysterious incidents in the play.
The girt is very much surprised at this unexpected invitation. She looks towards the Man to seek his consent. The man responds in negative.
At this point, the girl tells the Second Man that she is not going with
him to bus. She also thought that he was the man, chasing her in
jungle.
(iii)- Why couldn’t the Girl describe the Killer?
The girl asked for help from the man because it was dark, stormy night and she could not see his face.

What type of life do you foresee in the year 5000?
Ans: In the year
5000, it is likely that man will have learnt to live and let live. He by
that time will have overcome the forces of the outer space.
(v) What is the role of General Powers in the play?
General Powers is a very important and vigorous member
of the National Guard. He is much concerned about the security of his
country. He remains in touch with the agencies concerned to keep himself
aware of the current situation. He considers Kreton a threat to his
country. So he threatens him harshly.
(vi) What is the purpose of the visit of Kreton?
The purpose of Kreton's visit to the Earth is merely a pleasure
trip. He is also interested in the study of the civilization of man. He
claims to have come to take the charge of the whole world.
(vii) Why does Clay need money?
Ans: Clay needs money to get his father come home again and to buy a present for his'mother.
(viii) What is Harry’s philosophy?
Harry’s philosophy is “A way to live" and that is to take it easy way.

from Book-Hi (Poems): 8
(i) How does the poet feel when he hears the rain falling on the leaves?
The
poet sees the leaves of the trees as living [beings. When he hears the
rain falling on the leaves, the poet sees fresher and greener leaves as
they are saturated with water. The poet feels that the water on the
leaves falls down [drop by drop which creates musical sound.

Why has the poet used “Cannon balls” to describe the fruits?
Ans: The
shape of the fruits mentioned in the poem is closer to that of a cannon
ball. That is why the poet compares them with the cannon ball.
(iii) Give a short character-sketch of Ozymandias.
Ozymandias was a mighty king of his time. He established
his unchallenged rule in the regime. He was known for his authority,
wealth, pomp and show. He was a cruel ruler. He treated his masses with
sheer contempt land ridicule. This mighty king who once ruled the world met the same fate as other humans do.
(iv) What does the title of the poem “The Hollow Men” suggests?
The title of the poem “The Hollow Men” suggests ' Tthat modern man is not leading a natural life. He is shallow and superficial.
(v) Who was Abraham? What was his faith?
Ans: Abraham- (Peace be upon him) Is one of the few prophets
mentioned In the Holy Quran. He preached the message of Allah among
Arab because he had firm faith upon Allah Almighty. He was thrown in
fire but he was saved by his faith and the fire turned into garden.
(vi) What is the effect of death of Bullah Shah’s friend on him?
Ans: The
death of a friend in neighbourhood terrifies the poet. The poet wonders
what to do in facing such a shocking reality. Suddenly, he thinks of a
big idea. He believes that love of God is a great blessing. Those who
love God are not afraid of death.

These lines have been taken from the poem “A Sindhi Woman” written by Jan Stallworthy.
Context:
The poet brings into prominence the beauty of poor working women who lead a rough and tough life in the slums of Sindh. The poet is of the view that natural beauty needs no ornaments.
Explanation:
Look at this poor woman, she has to work hard earn
her bread. She is gifted with natural beauty. Event 1 shabby dress, she
looks so beautiful. She walks with) l grace and dignity. Like her
friends, she also covers he face but the breeze does not let her do so.
It pushes back a make-shift scarf from her face and thus exposes he \
beauty. The beautiful woman has a youthful spirit. As she walks, she
bends her body in a beautiful way ..She walks C delicately with the
rhythm of a dancer’s feet She'« c walking with a stone jar on her head
and still she can wall — with a lot of ease and confidence.

8. | Translate the following passage into Urdu. (Short Stories Book-1): (15)
There was no use in Mr. Hubert’s protesting for nobody believed him. Mr. Manana repeatedly maintained that Hubert had picked up the pocket- book. For an hour, both men abused each other. Then at his own request, Mr. Hubert was searched. Nothing was found on him. Finally, the Mayor discharged Hubert with warning that he would consult the public prosecutor and ask for further orders.
As he left the Mayor’s office, people surrounded and questioned him with serious curiosity. Nobody believed his story of the string. Instead people laughed at him.
