   Essay:

A great Hero

Lincoln was a great hero, because he was a great patriot and saved his country from disintegration by launching a total war against the secessionists . He
was a great Statesman. He had a
steady grasp of events when the fate of his country seemed desperate. He is famous for his deep sense of humour and for his patience under misunderstandings and unjust attacks. He remained steadfast and courageous when others wanted to yield. He had little formal education, but became one of the greatest orators of his country. He had the gift of the gab and could convince others by his lucid
arguments.
Lincoln hated slavery from the very childhood. He opposed the idea of slavery in southern States. This is why they did not accept him as their President and
plunged the country into civil war. But it was due to his able and inspiring leadership, that the country was saved from disintegration.
Lincoln believed in justice. For
Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin. His father was a poor farmer. He was himself an uneducated man add did not have any formal education. At the age of six Abraham Lincoln who was popularly called ‘Abe’ by his parents did all sorts of household jobs i.e, to fetch water, using a small axe and gathering sticks for fires, which were so much needed in cold
winter days. When his family migrated to the state of Indiana, Abe helped his father in making the new. home. His father taught him how to shoot when he was only eight years old.
One of his early pleasures was to listen to stories that his mother read out to him from the Bible. It was actually his first story book. Later he read Pilgrim’s Progress, Aesop’s Fables and Robinsons Crusoe. Abe’s mother’s sudden death was great shock to him. But when h
eleven years old sister could not manage the house, his father had to marry again. Luckily his step-mother was a great woman. She brought ease and good luck with
her. She looked after him and his sister very well. She sent him
to a school and saw that Abe dressed properly. His teacher at school also valued his intelligence and taught him good manners.

Lincoln was very tall. Even at the age of fifteen he was six feet and did not know in the least how to deal with his long arms and legs. When he became a man he earned his living in a variety of ways. He splitted the rails for fences, worked as a country store-keeper, acted as a postmaster, surveyor and as a boatman. Thus it is clear that he spent his early life in great hardships and difficulties like a

common man. But the future had something different for him in store. Abraham Lincoln was a great lover of freedom. His speeches, as a matter of fact, were sermons to the whole humanity. He worked very hard for the emancipation
of the American, as a result of this struggle he lost his life.
