Dear Sir,
I shall be thankful if you publish this letter in the columns of your esteemed daily. I want to draw the attention of the public and; authorities to the traffic problems on the city roads.
The unmanageable traffic is one of the biggest problems of Lahore. The traffic on the roads is very congested. In peak hours, like school, college, office and business hours, the roads are jamrped with traffic. The atmosphere gets smoky because of the carbon emitted from various kinds of vehicles. All'ihis rush and hurry results in accidents. People are delayed and they fail to reach their destinations"
There are'certain factors which create this problem. Most of the roads in Lahore are narrow, and they too are insufficient in number for the flow of traffic. During the last decade, the city of Lahore has expanded beyond limits. People need transportation to reach their places of business, offices or work. The number of buses, cars, auto-rickshaws^ and trucks has been accordingly increased to meet this demand.
This, problem can be solved to a great extent, if certain steps are taken in time. The existing roads/should be widened and repaired at regular intervals. New roads should be constructed to lessen the burden on the existing roads. To avoid the jams on the crossings, overhead bridges should be z built. Through pre-planned schemes, the flow of traffic should be distributed on various roads. The principle of one-way traffic should be imposed on busy roads. Some steps should also be taken to develop traffic sense in the pedestrians.
