(i) What are Huxley’s views about ugliness?
Ans: In this essay "The Beauty Industry”, Aldous Huxley says that women spend much time and money on their make-up. This has given birth tq a new industry called “The Beauty Industry" which produces make-up items. Women appear beautiful and young and attract the attention of men. But there is a limit to it.

A time comes when these items of cosmetics do not help. These women ignore their innerself or - character. Ugliness may be physical as well as psychological. Besides many other things, psychological ugliness includes stupidity and unawareness. These two shortcomings are very common among physically beautiful woman.

They pay attention to their physical ugliness and try to make them physically beautiful. They ignore their, psychological ugliness. They remain stupid and ignorant, and never try to .be beautiful in manners and character. The writer’s suggestion is that beautiful women should also pay attention to the development of their minds, and training of characters.
